In Write It Do It, one team member is given a structure built from some sort of construction materials, and writes a set of instructions on how to build it. The other team member will receive the instructions written by their teammate and a set of unassembled materials, and attempt to recreate the object as accurately as possible.
Activity #1: Write it do it - use only words. (After using only words, it becomes apparent how important diagrams are!)
Activity #2: Draw it do it, use sketches. Put your sketching abilities to the test! Think about what it takes to convey structural information about something.
Class discussion after activity - what information was missing from your instructions? what information was useful? what was redundant? were you able to reproduce the original structure?
Whenever you are producing a report, a diagram, or other technical document, remember this activity - the point of what you are writing is so someone else can reproduce what you have done.
(Pictures of original objects are posted online after everyone has a chance to re-create it based on someone else's instructions)
